Tracey first encountered Argentine tango In a park in Montreal in 2001 when stranger pulled her to her feet and spent two hours teaching her the basics. It was memorable and she was moved but life happened and years passed before she could commit to taking her first lessons.
In 2007 circumstances aligned and Tracey began what has become a varied adventure through Argentine tango. She credits wise salon tango teachers in Montreal, Toronto and Buenos Aires for nurturing her learning: Marika Landry, Mauro Peralta, Carlos Boeri & Alison Murray, Faye & Bryant, Tomas Howlin, Joaquin Besga, Virginia Pandolfi, Cynthia Fattori, Valentina & Mathias and many other influences and classes.
Tracey has uprooted and reintegrated into four wildly different Canadian tango communities throughout her learning journey, adapting her dance to different environments and embraces. Leaving beloved friends and partners behind and patiently reintegrating into a new community has taught her discernment, persistence, patience and the importance of solo practice in the context of a supportive learning community.
Montreal. Toronto. Victoria. Ottawa.
After ten years as a follower Tracey reluctantly but decidedly committed to learning both roles. She is grateful to have been inspired and encouraged by other female leaders in her home communities throughout her travels. She prefers to dance close embrace tango salon with musical simplicity.
Tracey developed as a classical ballet dancer from the age of four. In her 20s she became a dedicated meditator and yoga practitioner and taught Anusara Yoga for 10 years as one of only eight Certified teachers in Canada. The rigour of Anusara’s thematic, therapeutic and anatomical teaching standards informs Tracey’s approach to teaching tango with kinaesthetic awareness and contemplative internal inquiry. She taught Yoga for Tango workshops in Montreal and Providence, RI.
In Victoria BC Tracey taught weekly technique classes, supported a weekly guided practica, taught and performed with local and visiting teachers, hosted and organized special events and contributed to the evolution of Victoria tango into the thriving community it has become.
Since 2010 Tracey has worked in the field of discursive learning, transformation and action research for social and organizational change. She has helped communities and organizations to galvanize and shape new futures through participatory processes, dialogue and shared governance. She contributed her facilitation skills to a global Awaken Tango community through the pandemic in collaboration with dancers from the U.S. and Germany.
“Tracey is a gift to tango. She has the capacity to tune into the future potentials in our community, as well as the facilitation, coaching, and collaboration skills that help us bring it out.”
